I first learned of Wenge through a potential Facebook Marketplace trade and promptly witnessed their blanketing nu-gaze/alt-rock genius at The Starlighter the same week.
3 damn guitarists. I admit there was slight skepticism on my end; wondering if maybe one of them would do interpretive dances or sell merch mid set. The first song ended and I swallowed my entire foot.
Originally performing under the moniker Shyne, Azzy, Diego, Greg, and Andi were classmates in their college percussion course and participated in various hardcore projects. The four jammed for about a year when Ryan, another local musician involved in the Corpus Christi scene joined as their 3rd guitarist.
Diverging from their hardcore roots, much to the likes of say Turnstile or Vein.fm, a sonic painting of clouds and velvet undertoned by 90's nostalgia henceforth arrived.
The list of influences and inspiration reach from their friends in Photosynthesis, Ritual, and Violetta all the way back to 'gazer legends such as Starflyer 59, HUM, Momma, and Pinback. The allusions are clear whilst not being derivative.
The band plans on making as many memories and as much progress as they can "before life takes this time away type shit". Type shit...
