BAND OF THE WEEK
Faint | Band Review

210 SomethingCore is a perfect and yet underselling label self-ascribed by the kickass dudes in Faint.

The band at its crux is a two piece with a revolving door of drummers/bassists that seamlessly blend elements of washed out nu-gaze vocals similar to Narrow Head, metalcore riffage and screams like Disembodied, and beatdown hardcore two-step cadences that hang with the best of them.

Low guttural screams overlaid with crushing super compressed bass and tasty drums are some of my favorite elements the band offers. With that being said, not being limited to caveman riffs and boom boom clap hardcore drums is something these guys excel at and more bands should heed. Haunting arpeggios from guitarist Justin blended with wicked pitch-shifted and abrasive soundbites seemingly screaming from the pickups themselves help round out an already diverse audio soundstyle.

Inspirations the band allude to include Daitro (French post-hardcore), legends The Mars Volta and Deftones. It clearly works because the latter two bands are touring together as I tap my shittily tattooed fingers on this keyboard.

High octane performances are an absolute must when mentioning the live endeavors of this band, with the vocalist drawing from Anthony Green and Cedric Bixler-Zavala (Circa Survive and At the Drive-In respectively) for his frenetic stage antics.

While the city of all time, San Antonio, waits for new music in the form of an under construction EP, they satiated our desires with the REDUX version of 'Thanks For Dying'. This track is their best yet with even better production and performances from the band. Stay tuned bitches.

Go spin some Faint!
