Grab your Raws, your finest herb, and lighter of choice. This album is best imbibed stoned.
With that being said, the name Weed is intended as a verb referring to "getting rid of..."
Opening with ringing feedback that occurs throughout, Deserve falls into one of the catchiest stonergaze riffs with Heal and takes you on a trip. Reverb soaked vocals evoke a cathedral performance that washes over you with nostalgia for something you've yet to experience.
The vocals encompass much more than your typical unintelligible mumbles though. Soaring screams with the perfect amount of ear-tingling grit make appearances as well. Drum mix and playing is garage-y and primal. Effective without overplaying. Phenomenal 90's guitar and bass tone. Bass can get lost in the mix at times due to how raw the mix is. Whoever produced the album essentially slapped reverb on the Master and called it a day. By golly it works.
STANDOUT TRACKS
GUN SHY
Punk sounding and two-steppy, this track locks you in the groove. Taking it even further away from rudimentary double time is gut-wrenching screams so washed out they make your ears orgasm.
GRANTED
An anthem of a closer. Super hooky guitar riffs that remind you of youth and drinking water out the hose in the sun.
Fantastic album with one of the most interesting mixes I've heard. From some info I've gathered, Weed seems to have disbanded...
